Pedro Morais Andrade
Born in 1982, Pedro Morais Andrade is one of the finest Portuguese violinists of his generation.
In 1999, Mr. Andrade was awarded 1st prize in the Portuguese National Radio Music Competition. He was a member of the Bonn European Soloists Academy and studied also at CNSM of Lyon, in France.
In 2001, Mr. Andrade was awarded a prestigious scholarship from the Gulbenkian Foundation to study at the Berlin Arts University (UdK) and graduated in 2005 with the highest honors. Mr. Andrade has been a member and Concertmaster in several international chamber and symphony orchestras under world renowned conductors as Peter Csaba, Pierre Boulez, Lutz Köhler, Mariss Jansons, Daniel Barenboim, Sir Simon Rattle, Gianandrea Noseda, among many others.
In 2006, Mr. Andrade represents Portugal, as Concertmaster from the "Association of Melody among Civilizations" from the UNESCO at the UNESCO 60th Birthday Celebration Concert in Paris, and in February 2007, with the Cuba National Symphony Orchestra, at the "Havana Music Festival", in Cuba.
Mr. Andrade was a pupil of eminent teachers as Alberto Gaio Lima, Boris Kuniev, Pavel Vernikov, Thomas Brandis, Axel Gerhardt, Uwe-Martin Haiberg and Bernhard Hartog. He also participated in several masterclasses by Boris Garlitsky, Daniel Gaede, Antje Weithaas, Christian Tetzlaff and Augustin Dumay.
He has performed with Lucjan Luc, Alexei Eremine, Paulo Gaio Lima, Paulo Pacheco, Paul Rivinius, Timothy Park, Debussy Quartet, Lora Dimitrova, Johannes Moser, Wilfried Strehle, among many others.
Mr. Andrade made recordings as a concerto soloist for RDP, DW, Radio-France, NDR, UdK, KlassikRadio/Deutschland Radio. He continues to perform as a soloist and in chamber music groups all over the world. He is a founder of the Schoenberg Sextet, the Berlin Piano Trio and the Trio.pt with Paulo Pacheco (piano) and Paulo Gaio Lima (cello). Since 2007, Pedro Morais Andrade performs in duo with the pianist Gottlieb Wallisch. He currently plays a violin made by Christian Bayon.
