Symphonic music Tone-poem Yunnan written by composer WANG Xilin, is composed of four movements, the last movement of which The Torch Festival, is very often chosen for concert performance alone. This excerpt has vividly exhibited the numerous happy young couples in fancy dresses, are enjoying themselves in the minority's traditional Torch Festival activities, singing and dancing for the whole night. Three different themes are heard in the music: strong and vigorous male dancers; mild and graceful female dancers; and the rejoicing and feverish mass dance. The Tone-poem was awarded first prize in 1981 China National Competition of Symphonic works. Other works of WANG's including the 2nd, 3rd, 4th Symphonies and a symphonic chorus, also highly acclaimed at home and abroad.
